Calanga Beach Resort is a coastal holiday and break-away destination for families, friends and individuals who want to relax in the peaceful nature of Mozambique situated ± 200 km from the Komatipoort / Mozambique border and 90 km’s north of Maputo. The last 10 km to this undeveloped natural piece of coastline, requires a 2x4 or 4×4 or by prior arrangement, you can be collected at our closest town called Manhica where you will leave your vehicle in our safe parking area.

The resort is set in a dense coastal dune forest behind a sand dune, which offers shelter from the wind and the unspoiled ocean. The protection of the fauna and flora is our priority and we positively attempt to keep this Resort secluded, unspoiled, natural and isolated. This “bush and beach’’ location offers any visitor a special feeling of remoteness of the African bush with the advantage of an undeveloped natural piece of coastline. We have wonderful weather most time of the year and this makes Calanga a fabulous holiday destination all year thru. We also pay tribute to the small local community of Calanga, they are very helpful and their honest habits served to be a great advantage to make Calanga such a pleasure to visit. We never in the past couple of years had any security or safety problem and at Calanga you can leave your belongings, even your purse in the Chalet and return to find it where you left it.

Rhino Safari Camp - Zimbabwe is small and highly personalized, staffed by people who are passionate about their land, their environment and the wild animals in it.

Rhino Safari Camp offers you comfortable spacious accommodation with outstanding views, a superbly comfortable nights sleep, loads of hot shower water, freshly prepared homestyle meals, game viewing activities that get you up close and personal, followed by a cool drink by the fire at the end of the day and an unforgettable meal beneath the canopy of the night sky. All in uncontrived natural surroundings in one of Africa’s few remaining wilderness areas.

Rhino Safari Camp offers a balance between the mobile tented camp and the ultimately luxurious permanent camps. There is no  electricity and here you  live with what nature provides – with a few added extras. Batteries are recharged with solar panels, petrol driven pumps are being used for water, refrigerate and cook with gas, heat water in wood fired boilers, and light the camp at night with paraffin lamps, candles, and the flickering light of the camp fire.

Accommodation:

Each of the six twin bedded rooms nestles within the jesse bush along the lake shore line.

The emphasis is providing guests with their creature comforts without losing touch with the natural surroundings. Rooms are elevated wooden platforms with extended thatched roofs. Reed half walls at the sides and back allow for natural ventilation. The open fronts are screened with drop down reed mats which are opened or closed according to requirements.

The spacious room offers superbly comfortable twin beds, a wardrobe, seating area and dressing table. And of course magnificent views of the lake.

At the back of each room at a slightly lower level is the en suite open air shower, flush toilet and hand basin. Plenty of running hot water is available from wood fired boilers. Toilet rolls, towels, shampoo and soap are provided.

Facilities:

At the entrance to the camp is the main boma, the central area to meet, eat and relax. This spacious platform is completely open at the sides allowing the breeze from the lake to cool the interior. Both upstairs and downstairs sections are being used for dining and relaxation.

Downstairs is a discreet bar and buffet area with a dining area and camp seating area. Upstairs is a comfortable living area and alternative dining area with magnificent views of the lake and the animals as they wander along the shoreline. A small but practical selection of reference books and reading material  are on offer, and a selection of traditional games to keep you occupied.
Tea, coffee and other beverages are available to guests throughout the day in the boma.

All meals are freshly prepared at camp, with maximum nutritional benefit in mind.

Safaris:

Safaris here are not just about photographic encounters with the Big Five. Each is an adventure and a deeply moving learning experience. All activities take place in the care of professional guides who are there to enhance your understanding and appreciation of the animals and trees, plants, insects, history and geography of this wilderness area. There is also plenty of time to relax, unwind, and enjoy the peace and tranquility of the African bush.

Late afternoons are the best time to cruise along the shoreline, exploring the creeks and inlets. Catching a glimpse of hippos or crocodiles. Cruises also offer excellent opportunities for photography, allowing you to get up close to the animals from the safety of the water. Enjoy a cool sundowner as you gently drift along, and marvel at the spectacular Kariba sunsets that splash vivid colours across the wide open skies.

Return to camp as dusk envelopes you welcomed by the gentle glow of the camp fire and twinkling lights of camp. After a hot shower beneath the stars your guide will escort you to the fire to enjoy a cold drink and share the days adventures.

Routines are not set in stone and there are numerous places of great interest and natural beauty to be explored.

Everyone at Rhino Safari Camp is there to ensure that your stay is as enjoyable as possible. With the spirit of Africa , the staff are unobtrusive, friendly and uncontrived in their interest and concern for their guests.

Majete Wildlife Reserve - Malawi

Majete has become one of the most attractive parks in Malawi. Wildlife viewing is the highlight of a visit to Majete, but there are many ways of doing that. Whether it is on a Game Drive, a Bushwalk or if you feel more adventurous and go Elephant Tracking. Majete has even more to offer! Learn about the daily life and culture around Majete or visit the different community projects. Music, dancing, traditional meals, it is all possible.

The Kapichira Falls is important historically and offers an interesting view over the Shire River. Close by there is a Baobab tree where David Livingstone, the famous Scottish missionary, put up a camp when he visited the area. The grave of Thornton, one of the members of Livingstone's expedition, is located at Maganga village, few kilometers from Majete. The grave also situated under the Baobab tree, is well maintained and is still intact.
Directions
Majete Wildlife Reserve is located about 70km south-west of Blantyre in Malawi.

Accommodation:

Thawale Camp
Stay overnight in Thawale Camp. This camp is situated inside the Majete Sanctuary, it is not fenced so animals regularly visit the camp. Do not be surprised if you hear elephants near your tent at night! Thawale Camp has six twin ensuite tented chalets (5 basic chalets and one luxury tent). All chalets have an ensuite bathroom with hot and cold running water, one chalet has an unique open air bathroom built among the rocks with a shower and a sunken bath and a view of the floodlit waterhole. The chalets are spaced out to offer visitors
privacy and an individual bush experience. They overlook an attractive waterhole that is floodlit at night. Visitors can usually watch elephants, waterbuck, buffalo and other game enjoying a drink. In the middle there is a communal lapa (traditional lounge area) with a fully staffed kitchen. Basic meals are provided of which the traditional Malawi meal is highly recommended. Full board per person per night sharing: US$ 76.

Majete Community Camp Site is a pleasant campsite that is situated inside the reserve. This site is built in 2007 and equipped with a bar area, barbeque area, toilets and showers. Looking for a nice place to pitch a tent? Try one of the shadow shelters. This beautiful thatched hide-out offers a comfortable place to spend the night. You might even just role out your sleeping bag on the platform and spend the night under the stars. The campsite is owned and managed by the communities around Majete. The profits go directly to these communities. Self-catering per person per night: US$ 6.

Majete is best explored by car.

Activities:

  • Elephant Tracking
  • Game Drive
  • Bush Walk
  • Community Visit
  • Gule wa Mkulu Dancers
  • Scout in your own car

Bush breakfast:

At the headquarters of Majete Wildlife Reserve we hava a fully equipped, air conditioned boardroom, so make your meeting, workshop of function an enjoyable event and combine it with some game viewing in the Reserve.

Seasons:
Whatever time of year, Majete Wildlife Reserve has something to offer.  The park is accessible the whole year through. Game viewing is however far superior during the dry season (June to November). Due to its position in  the Shire Valley, the terrain is rugged, and undulating, and some game viewing areas are “better” than others.
