Next to the Okavango Delta, Chobe National Park is probably Botswana’s next most well known conservation area. It is a diverse area, from the border at the Chobe River, to the now dry Savute Channel, and beyond to the borders of the Moremi Game Reserve/Okavango Delta. The Park is best known for its concentrations of elephant – some 120 000 individuals, along with good numbers of buffalo, antelope and predators.
Into to this environment came Dr Clay Wilson, who traded the high pace Ratrace of private veterinary practice in Florida, 3 years ago for the peace and tranquility of the african bush. He volounteered his services to the national parks and have healed and alleviated pain and suffering in hundreds of different wild animlas in the last 3 years. Recently Dr Clay and his girlfriend singlehandedly vaccinated 650 domesticated dogs in this small community in an attempt to prevent the spread of the virus into the wildlife predator population. In this they have been sucesfull. Every day is a new adventure never a dull moment.
Dr Clay feels there is nothing more satisfying than darting a magnificent animal like an elephant that is ill in most instances its a snare around their legs. Treating it and waking it up so that it will live to see another wonderful day in the paradise of Chobe.
He has donated his time, expertize and fund treatment of wildlife and community heath. During the last4 years he has utilized all his personal funds and have no source of income to continue helping the wildlife as official veterinarian to Chobe National Park in Botwsana.
He is now in desperate need of funds for drugs, darts and fuel, so he can continue to do this important but expensive work.
From the wild and to the city and back , whenever you feel you must get on track. The roar of a lion and the howl of the hyena send chills down your spine. The privelage of working on theses magnificent wild animals is all the passion he has.
