Owners Joop and Micky warmly welcome guests to their Cape Dutch style Guesthouse/B&B, in the quaint and historical village of Montague, in the western corner of the Kannaland.
Malherbe Guesthouse is a National Monument and was buildt in 1859. Joop and Micky restored the house with love and care and this can be seen in all aspects of the house. There are five (5) ensuite rooms and four (4) with private entrance, patio or verandah . Each room is equipped with a bar-fridge, electronic safe, fan, heater for the cold winters, tea and coffee facilities, hairdryer and WI-FI HOT SPOT. Garden Rooms have TV with MNet. The Guesthouse also have a very spacious and comfortable guest lounge, overlooking the lovely secluded garden with beautiful views of the Langeberg mountains, where guests can enjoy a glass of local Muscadel. We also have a swimming pool where guests can take a refreshing dip or just laze in comfort in one of the lounge chairs.
A scrumptious breakfast, with homemade bread and fresh orange juice is served on the terrace under the vines overlooking the garden or when weather is not permitting it, breakfast is served indoors.
Montagu has many historical houses which all have been restored, including Joubert House in Long Street. This is the town's oldest local dwelling and is definately worth seeing. Also of historical value, is the Old Mission Church, which dates back to 1907 and displays a collection of valuable furniture, painting and objects d'art from Montagu.
Open for day visitors every day, Montagu offers their own Hot Mineral Springs and the healing powers enjoyed here has been renowned for over 200 years. The water is pumped from the eye of the spring and an open-ended flow system through the complex ensures that all the system's water is constantly replenished.
Various other activities are on offer in this beautifull village, including Tractor rides which takes 3 hours and one can indulge in a tradional South African "Potjiekos" meal.
And of course do not forget the various wineries in the area, where you can visit and taste the wonderfull wines of this area.
This area is also known as "Route 62" and is the longest wine route in the world.
There are numerous restaurants within easy walking distance from the Malherbe Guesthouse.
